Our 2015 Senior Internship Program culminated last week with a well-attended Exhibit Night, held for the second year at Google in Kendall Square. The seniors presented science-fair-style on their internship projects and were evaluated by faculty, family members, mentors and guests from the community. Successful completion of a 100-hour internship is a graduation requirement and a key part of CCSC’s mission to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.  Continue reading “Celebrating a Successful Internship Program”

Senior Internship Program Underway

wordleSIPSenior internships have begun for the Class of 2015, and we are pleased to welcome 46 sponsor-organizations to our program — a record number. Each senior is matched with a mentor and will spend every Wednesday during the second semester at the host organization. These unpaid internships, which are both career exploratory and educational, help fulfill CCSC’s mission to provide real-world connections to students. Successful completion of an internship project is a graduation requirement.

We are very grateful to this year’s sponsor-organizations: Continue reading “Senior Internship Program Underway”

The Value of (Unpaid) Student Internships

In the 2013 film comedy, The Internship, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson played interns at Google for laughs, but in real life unpaid internships have hit a rough patch in the public perception. With CCSC’s 2014 Senior Internship Program now entering its third week, we would like to take a moment to set the record straight about the expectations and educational value of our program. The Senior Internship Program is the capstone of the CCSC experience. Since February, all members of the Class of 2013 have spent every Thursday at their internship. Each has identified a specific need in their organization and has undertaken an independent project to address it. The seniors will share their final projects at the annual Senior Project Exhibition on Wednesday, May 22 from 5 – 7 PM. Members of the public are invited to attend along with internship mentors and sponsors, CCSC faculty, and senior families.

Here are three examples of internship projects: Continue reading “Join us May 22 for Senior Internship Exhbits”
