Today, as we welcome everyone back from April Break, we are sharing a link to a wonderful feature story about CCSC’s robotics team, “The Bot Side,” that appeared last week on NPR’s Science Friday blog. Our three-year-old team competes in the First Technology Challenge, which as the NPR blogger notes:

“…replicates the types of experiences students would get spending time in a technical field, and is regularly held up as an example for how to recruit and train future engineers. Indeed, The Bot Side team amassed an impressive list of skill sets and accomplishments that would surely make any headhunter, let alone college admissions counselor, lean forward with interest. And even though the students admitted to regularly being frustrated and spending tons of out-of-school hours on the robot, their overwhelming attitude was one of gratitude for the fun they had and friends they made.”

Congratulations to our talented FIRST robotics team (“The Bot Side”), who won the Motivate Award for best team spirit at last weekend’s State championship held at Bridgewater State University. Competing in States for the third year, The Bot Side (Team 5397) led the field of 32 school teams until late in the daylong tourney. Disappointing as the final outcome was, the team’s spirit and sportsmanship stood out to the judges and earned them recognition and a trophy. “The Bot Side” would make a great name for a café or a music club in Kendall Square — if it didn’t already belong to the CCSC robotics team, which is busy making a name for itself in the FIRST Tech Challenge. This is the second year The Bot Side has competed in the FTC, and the 13 team members are aiming to do even better than last year, when as rookies they won the Connect Award (for best outreach) at both the Arlington qualifying event and the FTC state competition.
