Learning specialist and basketball coach Brian Harvey contributed this recap of the annual faculty vs. students basketball game held on June 17 at the Ahern Park court:Monday afternoon the CCSC students and staff waged a blacktop battle for the ages.
Mr. Roebuck’s rebounding and scoring led the teachers to an early double-digit lead and observers wondered, “Will this be a repeat of last year’s easy teacher victory?” Not so fast. A furious rally by the students swung the momentum in their favor and provided an 11-point lead with 10 minutes remaining. “Could the teachers get back up?”
Mr. Bereth, Mr. Cook, Ms. Hogan, Mr. Morin, Mr. Morris, and I flashed old-school moves to cut down the lead, and Ms. Bajada drained a 3-pointer to tie the game with six minutes left.
Fast forward: Score tied. 5…4…3…2….1…Sophomore Treshon Walker pulls up for a 3-pointer at the buzzer and misses — but he was fouled! All eyes were on the clutch Cougars’ guard as he knocked down two of three free throws to win it for the students, 63-61.
Congrats to all the female and male student athletes who beat the teachers for the first time in the history of the rivalry!
Big shout-outs to:
Rising seniors Mehret Tadesse and Tristan Pepin for refereeing with grace and patience.
Ms. Hogan and Ms. Bajada who played the ENTIRE 42-minute game!
All the students and teachers who came out and watched the game!
