It’s not easy to be a student-athlete at CCSC. Cougar athletes exemplify the school’s core values of commitment, citizenship, scholarship, and courage on and off the court and playing field, balancing practices and games with a long school day and a heavy academic workload. For our basketball teams, commitment means practicing before school, at 6:30 a.m., and playing their home games on Friday nights, both at MIT’s gym (a 15-minute walk). Our soccer, baseball, softball, and track teams also have to compete at a high level without the benefit of any on-campus sports facilities. All CCSC athletes must keep up their GPAs and stay out of detention to remain eligible for team competition.

Thus, we are very proud that this year 112 students played at least one season, and 11 played all three seasons. Most impressive, our two Athletes of the Year, Annie Appolon ’15 and Biondy Lisieux ’14, managed to play four sports, competing in both track and softball or baseball this spring along with soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. Annie won 2nd and 3rd place in 100 meter and 200 meter races in the MCSAO track championships and was named a league All Star, and Biondy captained the soccer team this fall and was named Most Improved Player in baseball. Scholar Athletes of the Year, Khorally Pierre ’13 and William Sanchez ’14, both maintained GPAs over 3.75 while excelling on the basketball court. Khorally was named to the league’s First Team of All Stars, and will be attending the College of the Holy Cross next year. William is poised to continue his outstanding performance on court and off next year as a senior. Other CCSC athletes who were named MCSAO All Stars were Tenzing Migjur ’13 (soccer), Sylvia Sanchez ’13 (basketball) and Hykeem Terrell ’13 (basketball).

All participants in CCSC’s 2012-13 athletic program were commended by their coaches and Athletic Director James Morin at an awards ceremony and pizza dinner on June 11. The following students won all-school or team awards.
