Every CCSC student has a faculty advisor, and advisory groups (typically 10-12 students in the same grade) meet twice a week for an hour. The curriculum for our advisory program varies by grade. In middle school and grade 9, advisory provides time for academic check-ins, Roundtable and exam prep, and units on health and wellness and Internet safety.
The high school advisory curriculum is more geared toward preparing students for life beyond CCSC by helping them plan for college, apply to summer enrichment programs, and explore possible careers. During sophomore year we offer a career speaker series. Professionals from a variety of fields visit during advisory to talk about their work and the training and education they needed to find employment in their field.
This fall our career speakers have included two medical doctors, an architect, an independent web developer, a museum curator, and a documentary filmmaker.
If you are interested in talking with our 10th grade students about your career, please contact Jan Devereux, director of external relations, at firstname.lastname@example.org. The series runs on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:12-1:15 pm.
